Maui’s newest venue for family entertainment opened on May 10. Offering an indoor Nerf dart blaster arena as well as a soft toddler play area, Top Shot is a locally owned business that is designed for birthday parties, family outings, playdates and more.

“We are so thrilled to offer this fun option to the Maui community,” said Dina Edmisson, who owns the business with her husband Brian. “If you’ve ever played Nerf darts, you know how much fun it can be; but for those who haven’t, come give it a ‘shot.’ We promise that Top Shot will get you laughing and your heart racing.”

Top Shot is located at 400 Hāna Highway, Suite H. Maui’s newest family attraction is open seven days a week to the public and features a fun new place to host parties.

Brian and Dina and their two young sons are longtime Lahaina residents: Brian is a fishing guide, and Dina is an employee at Westin Kā‘anapali Ocean Villas. They lost their home in the 2023 fire, and like many kamaʻaina who suffered this loss, their whole perspective changed.

“We realized we wanted to do something that allows us to serve and interact with our community more,” Dina said. “We wanted to provide someplace fun for families to go and enjoy time together. The people of Maui deserve it. This space we’ve created is our love letter to the most wonderful community on earth and the amazing people who make it.”

At Top Shot’s recent soft opening for family and friends on May 10, keiki played in the tree house and slid down the indoor turf grass hill. Older kids equipped with goggles and giant Nerf blasters charged around a barrier to surprise their friends in a surprise attack. Laugher and shrieks of delight filled the sunny space, as parents and kūpuna lounged on soft couches and enjoyed the action.

Comments from families who attended ranged from: “The kids did not want to leave. We can’t wait to come back,” to “Great bunch of fun, an incredible space.” Said another mom: “My son is officially obsessed with Top Shot!”

For Pukalani residents Taylor Awai and Kiyozo Vaituulala, Top Shot is perfect for their 4-year-old and 2-year-old boys and their cousins. “They can run off and enjoy the Nerf battle, and we know it’s safe and fun and tires them out,” said Awai. “And, our 9-month-old daughter gets to hang out too, in an in-door setting. We can just relax and enjoy watching our kids and all the keiki.”

Nerf is gentler and less messy than paintball, making it an activity that young and old alike can enjoy. Top Shot offers two levels of play for epic Nerf action: Elite Level, with traditional manual blasters that shoot Elite foam darts or Rival foam balls; or Power Level, with automatic/battery-powered blasters that shoot either darts or balls. Kama‘āina prices start at $25 (regular $35) for one hour of Elite play, with an all-day pass for $45. Power level is $35 for one hour kama‘āina; $55 for all day (prices do not include tax).

Meanwhile, the little ones (ages 1 to 5) can play all day in the Toddler Play Area for just $25. A tree house and grass hill, sensory and pretend play, and soft structures for climbing and sliding will keep the keiki safely occupied for hours. And if anyone gets hungry, the Snack Bar offers bottled drinks, packaged snacks and ice cream.

For birthday parties and group events, packages start at $450 (plus tax) for two hours of foam dart arena play for 10 players, plus use of party tables, goggles, blasters, ammo and grip socks.

Dina and Brian say they can’t wait to see people’s reactions to what they’ve created. Opening a brand new business is not without great effort, but the Edmissons are excited for this new chapter in their lives.

For Brian, his fishing guide service Maui Shore Fishing Guides helped give him confidence for this venture. “It was a business I started by myself, with one other person doing it,” he said. “I was wondering in the beginning if it would be successful, but it was for me. With Top Shot, we hope the experience brings our community joy, and that they like it as much as we do!”

As Dina said, “No one ever complained of having too much fun in their lives.”

Top Shot Foam Dart Arena at 400 Hāna Highway is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
